But the focus is very much on YOU.
- Post- natal yoga that will help you on the post-natal recovery that is unique to you. Expect gentle exercise and pelvic floor work that will help you to rebuild your strength.
- The yoga class is sequenced with keeping your baby happy, so there’s lots of eye contact, funny noises, props and other ways to keep your baby entertained while you actually do the yoga!
- Just when you baby starts to sense that this might not be about them, we will break into some good old fashioned nursery rhymes, to keep them on side!
Class is every Tuesday at 11.10am – 12pm at Rochdale Pilates & Yoga Studio, Spotland Bridge Mill, OL12 5BU
Baby & Me Yoga FAQs
When can I start Baby & Me Yoga?
This very much depends on the birth you experienced.
You can start when your baby is 6 weeks or older if:
- You had a vaginal birth
- You didn’t tear, or you had a 1st or 2 degree tear
- You didn’t have an episiotomy, forceps or ventouse delivery
You can start when your baby is 10 weeks or older if:
- You had a vaginal birth with an episiotomy, or a 3rd or 4th degree tear, or you had a forceps or ventouse delivery.
- You had a caesarean birth.
You also need to have had your 6-week check with your GP and have been given no reason why you can’t start yoga.
Do I need to bring anything to class?
Please bring a small blanket, or muslin for your baby, and a portable changing mat if you have one. Other than that, just the usual enormous bag of stuff you need to leave the house nowadays!
Can I bring my pram?
Yes. We are up on the 3rd floor and there is a lift. There isn’t space for you to bring your pram into the studio, but there is lots of space for you to park it outside the studio up on the 3rd floor. Your pram won’t be in sight so you’ll want to bring your valuables in with you.
Can I bring my car seat?
Yes, we will have space for car seats as long as they are not attached to your pram wheels. You could bring baby in asleep and leave them at the side of you, if you wanted to.
What if my baby needs feeding/changing/needs a nap during the class?
Go ahead! Do whatever you need to do. Please bring your portable changing mat, or a muslin, and change your baby wherever you feel comfortable; in the studio is fine. You can feed your baby during class, so do feel free to bring whatever you need to do that.
I didn’t give birth to my baby – can I join the class?
Absolutely – we are all parents and so we have a lot in common (sleepless nights, emotional rollercoaster, adapting to a new way of life…!) So anyone caring for a new baby will get a lot out of coming to the class in terms of making friends, enjoying some exercise and sharing the journey of parenting with others.
This class is specifically a post-natal yoga class, so it is more gentle than a regular yoga class and is going to specifically target common areas of concern for people who have recently given birth (like the pelvic floor). If you don’t mind that, then please feel very welcome!
I’ve never done any yoga before, will I be ok in this class?
Yes! This is a very simple and gentle yoga class. Whether you are a seasoned yogi or have never stepped foot on a yoga mat before, this class will be absolutely fine for you.
Is my baby too old for me to come to this class?
This class is designed for parents with babies who are under 1 year old. Or, to be more specific, it probably works best if baby isn’t yet ‘on the move’. If your baby is already crawling, I think you’d find the class less enjoyable as you’d mostly (I imagine!) be following them and lifting them off various things/people! There’s no strict door policy, but I would suggest a different class, such as Sweaty Mama or Dance Like a Mother, if your baby is crawling.
